Canvas #215: FOUND!

Danica wrote to share that she and her little brother found Canvas #215 in a park called Old Orchard Park. I have it listed as belonging to Ms. Croy, who asked for a bunch of canvases for her class, but never received an e-mail from her, telling her story! So it's a mystery as to who actually made this canvas!

Here's what Danica said, My 8 year old brother found this and asked me if he could keep it, I asked if there was a name on it.He said no so I said "Why not?" He got so excited and I was happy to see him so happy so in the end everybody was happy! When we got home he told our parents and we put it up in his room. We found this awhile back, but I just saw the back and I checked out the website and I noticed that mine didn't say "this is for you on it" Maybe it came off? Anyways this was really cool and I was happy to see my brother happy so thank you :)

Canvas #276: FOUND! A Tim Hortons, Merritt, British Columbia, Canada

It seems that lots of canvases have been found lately! Love that people are taking the time to write in about their finds.

Here's what Ashy said: My little niece Ashy found this canvas as we walked in to our usual coffee destination. Her eyes lit up and she gasped, "What is that!?" She picked it up and asked us to read it to her. She clung to it for the remainder of our stay and brought it home with her. All the while asking why it was there, what do we do with it, and who put it there. She seemed quite excited and would like to make one of her own to surprise someone else. <3

Isn't Ashy so cute with the little canvas?! Love!

She took a photo of the canvas:

People ARE sweet and kind, aren't they? I love people. :)

Canvas #177: Found!

Deb found Canvas #177 in a school library!

Here's her picture:

She said she was "confused" when she found it. :)

Canvas #207: FOUND!

I only just now discovered this:

I love that Santina's piece has spread so much love! I've had a bunch of people sign up because of Nourish's posting. By the way, that restaurant looks delicious. If I'm ever in Victoria, I'll definitely be hitting it up!

Canvas #5: Found!

Someone found Dale's canvas! The finder writes, I was curious and thought it was a clever idea. Took it to my girlfriend and she found your site. She is now taking with her to California and leaving it somewhere where someone else can find it.

What an awesome idea! Take someone's canvas, and put it somewhere else! How cool is it that Dale's beach is traveling to a state full of beaches?!

Canvas #24: Found

Paul e-mailed to let us know he'd found Kelsey's canvas on the boardwalk in Halifax. He included this photo:
He also asked, Am I allowed to take it? Probably not. ;(

I quickly e-mailed him back saying, YES you CAN take it! It's there for YOU!

Paul e-mailed me back saying he went back the next day and the canvas was gone (but oddly, the easel was still there!). This just reinforced something I've suspected about this project since day one: people don't know if they should take the art, or leave it, or in some situations, like in libraries and coffee shops, if it's part of the decor and supposed to be there. So I decided to get some tiny labels printed, which will grace the easels from this point on. See?

Found: Canvas #13

Lauren writes: I had just gotten off of work (a physically demanding restaurant job), and was literally limping in pain toward the Redline train station to go home, when I noticed this bright little thing on the ground.

There are many artsy little shops in this part of Hollywood, so when I realized it was a canvas (and tiny easel), my first reaction was "oh no, someone dropped their art purchase!" I picked it up and looked around to see if anyone was looking about for something, but the area was just full of people dressed up and heading into clubs and restaurants. So I flipped the canvas over, and on the back it said "Yep, i left this here for you :)" I was so touched. Work is always so demanding, and when I found the canvas, it absolutely made my day.

I just graduated, last May, with a degree in Art History, and already have one in Art, so art is one of my great passions, and i felt so honored to have been the lucky person who found this treasure. It is a beautiful piece - hot pink and blue, with some black and white; textural black markings against the greater area of bright colors. It is mostly abstract, with twists of black vines and leaves coming up from the bottom, up along the right side. It think it might be ink or marker. I love it, it's a complete gem.

I've only lived in Los Angeles for a month, and it made me feel so welcome. Thank you, mystery artist! I will absolutely make one myself and try to brighten someone else's day.

I love this, Lauren. This is precisely what I hoped the Blank Canvas Project would do!

Found: Canvas #29

Sarah found Tessa's lovely little canvas in the University of Lethbridge library. She said, "This was so surprising to find! I was closing the library and thought someone left their amazing art project behind. At 11pm on a Wednesday, I really did need to be told I was important. Thank you! :)"

This is exactly what I hope the Blank Canvas Project does: brings something important to someone who needs it just at exactly the right moment.

Canvas #126: Found!

Rinama found Canvas #126 shortly after it was placed. Here's what she had to say:

"When I found this it was pitch dark and I was with my two friends. When I went back to my house and saw it in real light, it was amazing! I'm 13 and think it today was the luckiest day, because I found this canvas. Who ever painted it you have talent! With this canvas my eyes will be more open to the world and my surrounding's."

Thanks for your story, Rinama! If anyone else has made their way to this site because you found one of our canvases, we encourage you to leave us a note in the "I Found a Canvas!" tab.
